1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I finished college. I got a professional theater job. I signed a lease on an apartment.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
My resolution was to floss. I was really really good the first month. I was OK the following months. Haven't been so good these last few months. I will probably make more resolutions for next year but I do not yet know what they will be.
3. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
I'm going to my friend's apartment where we will eat. And drink. And then we may watch the fireworks from my roof!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
I didn't leave the country this year.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A performing job in New York.
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August 10: the date I flew down to Raleigh. September 27: the date when HAIR closed. December 17: the date of my cabaret at the Duplex.
8. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
I would say HAIR, my cabaret, and landing the upcoming job in Florida.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't really think in terms of failures. Nothing has been a failure, just a lesson learned. Each audition that I don't book teaches me more about myself as a performer, what I can offer and what others are looking for.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing serious. I got a little sick right after Reefer Madness and a little sick right after my cabaret. That's pretty much it.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Wow! It could be my green Uniqlo fleece.
12. Where did most of your money go?
My rent. Duh.
13. What song will always remind you of 2009?
My obsession songs of 2009 playlist has 22 songs on it. Definitely all the Dogfight songs, "Up The Ladder To The Roof," and "Hey."
14. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Going to the gym. Actually I was pretty good for a while. Raleigh sort of killed it, though.
15. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Less hemming and hawing. Less self-doubting and second-guessing.
16. What was your favorite TV program?
This year was quite a year for TV for me. I think it's a toss-up between Nurse Jackie, Mad Men and Modern Family.
17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No! I don't really hate anyone.
18. What was the best book you read?
The best book I read for the first time? The Hour of the Star by Clarice Lispector. Best book I re-read? One Hundred Years of Solitude.
19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
OH! Peter Lerman, and the songs from Dogfight.
20. What was your favorite film of this year?
Probably Every Little Step and Dead Snow.
21. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went to the gym I think. Then I got a haircut. Then I got Chop't and Yogurtland. But to celebrate, I went to Blockhead's. And I got a free drink! And I turned 22.
22. What kept you sane?
While I was at Oberlin, the prospect of leaving kept me sane. Since Oberlin, the fact that I am no longer in school has kept me sane.
23. Who did you miss?
I miss Eliza, Eva, Kaitlyn, Hannah, and Megan. When I was in Raleigh I missed EVERYONE! Haha.
24. Who was the best new person you met?
I met so many amazing people down in Raleigh, so I'd say all of them.
25. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
It's important to take the time to discover yourself and then be that person. It's really easy to go around trying to please everyone and pretending to enjoy things so that other people like you, but it's much better to have a sense of your own self and to know that the reason you're doing something comes from a positive personal choice as opposed to a desperate choice to please someone else.
What does 2010 hold for you?
Well, theoretically this show in Florida will happen in a month or so. Then... who knows! Maybe a showcase, maybe two! Maybe we'll continue doing our cabaret.
